Carpet Cleaning Tips

Walking barefoot on a clean carpet is bliss. Whether its summer or winter, carpets make any house feel like a home, somewhere you can lie down and relax while you read a book. Add soft pillows and you won’t feel the need to get up once you lie.

It is important to clean the carpet in the right way to ensure that it remains pristine. Here are a few carpet cleaning tips to help you out.

  1. Get a lint roller

Have you found yourself in a situation where crumbs and crud aren’t just going away after vacuuming? This is quite common with carpets made using long hair. The fibers can’t be easily cleaned even using the greatest vacuum cleaner of all.

The simple solution is engaging a lint roller. You will be able to deal with all stubborn substances that have accumulated on the carpet. Depending on the material used to make your carpet, you are not likely to spend more than ten minutes to clean a single carpet.

  1. Use a squeegee to get rid of pet hair

Removing pet hair from carpets is a particularly difficult task when all you have is a vacuum cleaner. At times, lint rollers bring little success when cleaning large carpets that are used by pets that shed a lot of hair from time to time.

With a sturdy squeegee, you can easily clean your short-hair carpet. While the intended purpose of a squeegee is cleaning windows, its design allows for easy removal of frost, gunk and any other substance that easily sticks to surfaces.

Wet the squeegee and use it on your carpet just as you would do while cleaning a window.

  1. Removing oil stains

Oil spills are one of the most annoying substances when it comes to getting rid of them from carpets. You won’t have much success if you decide to remove them by dabbing or with hot water.

The best way to remove oil stains from a carpet is by using baking soda. Cover the stained area with a liberal amount of baking soda then leave it to absorb the oil.

Once a dry crust is formed, vacuum it away. Once the oil is completely absorbed, dab the stain.

  1. Freshening your carpet

In theory, baking soda solves just half of your problems when it comes to carpet care. It is one of the important components to freshen your carpet for whatever occasion that you intend to host in your house.

You will need to source a box of baking soda, preferably the 16-ounce package and essential oil. Depending on the extent that you want the scent to be noticed, pour 10 to 20 drops of oil into the mixture. For the perfect scent, go for a citrus.

Sprinkle the mixture all over your carpet, just as you would while covering a cake with sugar. Vacuum the carpet for around five to ten minutes once you are satisfied that your carpet has had enough.
